Liberia: Liberia’s Fashion Designs Hit Europe-France, Belgium and Switzerland
Liberia’s Isatu Gbegbe-Noubibou assisted by her workmate Rosely Yarmai-Wernli, two women with determination showcased Liberia’s fashion designs through clothes for men and women.
But little did most people realize that despite the war, Liberians have come of age to leave the past and make a future in fashion and designs.
Mrs. Gbegbe-Noubibou who heads the Mema’s Exclusive Designs was very optimistic and taking the giant leap of showcasing and exposing Liberian fashion to Europeans in no small way.
She said her fashion design house, Mema’s was launched two years ago not to only show-off Liberia’s fashion but to also empower less fortunate boys and girls with skills in tailoring into fashion designs.
Mrs. Gbegbe-Noubibou said her fashion design business has recruited a lot of young girls and boys and they are contributing positively to the country’s Vision 2030 Initiative launched by Her Excellency Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia.
She said no vision can be actualized if the people themselves do not take advantage of it and use it meaningfully to their benefit. The European-Liberian fashion design tour took Mrs.Gbegbe-Noubibou and her team to Paris, France, Antwerp in Belgium and Bern in Switzerland.
She said the level of appreciation and acceptability from Liberians and non- Liberians alike was overwhelming and serves as a motivation for her future drive. She said young empowerment, moving Liberia forward, creating young entrepreneurs, promote peace and the actualization of the Vision 2030 are major aims and objectives of her dream.
