Elder Quentin Cook of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles addressing the congregation Accra, Feb 20, GNA – Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) have been admonished to apply the precepts of the gospel in their lives since that was the only way to hold on to their testimonies gained from the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Elder Quentin Cook, a member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said this during a ‘Member Devotional’ in Accra recently.

Elder Cook was sustained as an Apostle of the church on October 6 2007.

He said every member of the Church had a responsibility to assist individuals including non-members of the Latter Day Saints in their spiritual and physical upbringing.

He added that it was important for members to always bear in mind the core aim of the church, which are: ‘Proclaiming the Gospel, perfecting the saints, redeeming the dead and caring for the old age’.

Elder Cook said the only way members could raise God loving generation was for parents ‘to train their children in the ways of the Lord’.

He said the future of the Church was dependent on the children, therefore, parents should not shirk their responsibilities in providing the best support for them.

Elder Whitney Clayton of the Seventy said Africa, especially Ghana had over the years seen tremendous increase in membership calling on all to stay committed towards the growth of the Church.

The Church currently has eight Quorums. Each quorum has 70 members.

The Seventies are called to proclaim the gospel and build up the Church. They work under the direction of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and the Presidency of the Seventy.

Elder Clayton said although the membership of the Church had increased overwhelmingly, there was the need for members to stand firm at all times in defending their principles and standards in the gospel.
