Kwabena Agyepong’s Accident Will Not Earn Him Any Sympathy Votes – YB Asamoah

Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong was involved in a near-fatal accident on the Accra-Nsawam road on his way to Kumasi for a scheduled Press Conference prior to their departure to Tamale for the party’s National Delegates Conference scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2014.

The vehicle, a Toyota Prado, which was carrying Mr. Kwabena Agyepong and four of his aides, was heavily damaged in the accident.

His Special Aide, Davis Opoku-Ansah also known as OPK, told NEAT FM that his boss is safe although he sustained some minor injuries.

The situation has compelled his (Mr. Agyepong’s) closest contender and the incumbent chief scribe of the party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as ‘Sir John’ to suspend his campaign after he visited Mr. Agyapong at the 37 Military Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

However, many are of a view that, Kwabena Agyepong’s accident might gain him some ‘sympathy votes’ from delegates.

But one of the contestants vying for General Secretary position, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, has dismissed any such suggestions saying that “The NPP does not operate on such basis”.

Speaking on Asempa FM, he opined that “If NPP delegates want Kwabena Agyapong as their secretary, they will vote for him…but for now he is not the chosen one. Sympathy votes will not count. What if they vote for him and he can’t work?”

Adding that, “My pray is that he (Kwabena Agyepong) should get well soon. He will not win the race because of his accident. The delegates know who they want…they will not vote base on what has happened.”
