8381398014784 499893 Kumasi: Assemblyman Robbed And KilledThe Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the robbery and killing of the Assembly member for Akomfre at Atwima Boko in the Atwima Kwawoma District of the Ashanti Region.

Thirty-Six year old Samuel Frimpong was killed in front of his home last night in his 4X4 Toyota car while entering his main gate at about 7:45 pm on Monday.

The robbers, numbering about 5, also assaulted one of his workers who was with him, and manhandled his eight month old pregnant wife and made away with thousands of cedis in a jute bag. But the police suspect the unknown assailants may have been contracted to kill but not to rob.

The deceased is a successful small scale miner, who is believed to be generous. Unconfirmed reports suggest the money in the jute bag, locally referred to as ‘Ghana Must Go bag’, were salaries for his workers.

The Father of the deceased, who witnessed the killing from among some shrubs in a garden inside the house where he sought refuge from the robbers told Ultimate Radio’s Nana Oye Diabene, he had gone to open the gate for his son when he heard some people in front of the house forcibly demanding that his son surrendered every amount of money he had on him.

“I opened the main gate but before he could enter I heard hands up! Bring the money you have on you! My son told them he had no money on him. I then heard gunshots so I dashed off from the gate and hid in some cassava leaves behind the gate”.

“They were searching for me with torchlight since it was blackout in the area. So I stepped back and hid well. One of the robbers moved exactly to where I was to reload his gun. The gun looked just like the ones the police use, fortunately he did not see me,” he recounted his scary escape amidst tears.

Samuel Frimpong was later found in a pool of blood as he was shot and dragged out of his car. As at Tuesday morning, family members and well wishers were pouring in wailing and weeping at his residence.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye who visited the scene of the incident assured the family the culprits will be brought to book.

Speaking to Ultimate Radio, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer ASP Mohammed Tanko, who was also at the scene indicated they had “strong cues” to apprehend the culprits as quickly as possible. The body of the deceased was conveyed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Tuesday morning awaiting autopsy.
