Kofi B Arrested

649a734461184 770263 Kofi B ArrestedNews-One Picked reports Wednesday afternoon that highlife musician Kofi Boakye Yaidom aka Kofi B was being kept at the Greater Accra Regional Police Command over comments he recently made on radio that the campaign for fairness, transparency and equity in the distribution of royalties by the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) may get physical if not handled properly.

Kofi B’s arrest comes not long after his complaints about some unknown persons who were threatening to kill if he continued talking about GHAMRO issues.

Though details for his arrest were still sketchy as at press time, report say interim Board Chair of GHAMRO, Carlos Sekyi, was the complainant and that the police stormed Kofi B’s residence at Mile 7 in Accra to pick him up. He was not at home and so a message was left with his wife.

When News- One called Kofi B as at press time on Wednesday, he confirmed the story, saying “Yes, I have been invited by the police to Central Police Station. I will call back later.”

Kofi B is one of the strong voices among other musicians who have been calling on the interim Chairman of GHAMRO, Carlos Sekyi and the rest of his team to account for royalties they collected on their behalf and to explain why the board was still in office when the organization’s constitution said he shall remain in office for a maximum of two years- which elapsed on May 2013.

Kofi B, in one of his numerous campaigns against the GHAMRO Board recently stated on radio that “they should resign from that position or else we would beat them. But of course they need to account for every pessewa before they resign. You can’t sit in the offices and allocate any amount of money for yourself as allowances. When was the last time Carlos Sekyi and his people release musical materials? You sit there and eat from our sweat.”
