The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has called for residents with concerns about excessive noise making in their vicinities to lodge formal complaints with its noise control department for redress.
The Kumasi metropolis is gradually gaining notoriety for excessive noise making with the proliferation of churches, drinking bars, pubs and other unclassifiable public joints.
While some churches now see it fashionable holding dawn devotions on boom boxes in residential areas, public joints in Kumasi jam from Monday to Friday with most of them closing at very unholy hours.
Speaking to Ultimate Radio after several callers made similar complains on ‘what’s your beef a segment on the Ultimate Morning Show, ‘the officer in charge of the noise control unit at the KMA admitted noise making has been a problem in Kumasi for decades.
According to Isaac Bassanyin, there have been several concerns about high levels of noise making in certain parts of the Metropolis even at very odd periods in the night.
He pointed out that his outfit had different regulatory noise limits for commercial areas, residential areas and industrial areas but added that several people went above such limits.
He said pastors and owners of public joints have severally been invited to his office for cautioning
Isaac Bassanyin said his unit had put together a monitoring team tasked to monitor such public places in the metropolis to help deal with the problem.
