Kintampo Youth Go Wild. Over NPP Man’s Death
Joseph Atta Kofi, about 46 years old, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Organiser for Kintampo North, who also doubled as the Assemblyman for Mansra Electoral Area, met his untimely death when he was knocked down by a vehicle at a spot near the official residence of the Kintampo MCE at about 9am on Tuesday.
His death sparked a spontaneous outburst of anger among the youth who stormed the spot which they claimed had been a death spot and recorded about 16 deaths within this year.
The angry youth blocked the road and burnt car tyres and held hundreds of vehicles and commuters crossing to both the Northern and the Southern sector of the country hostage for more than three hours.
A section of the enraged youth told DAILY GUIDE they could no longer watch as people in the area were being killed due to the bad nature of the road.
They claimed that the government had delayed in completing the construction works on that stretch of the road where a lot of accidents had been occurring, killing the 16 th victim in 10 months.
The presence of the military and the police, who came around amid shooting to disperse the huge mob, could not cowed the irate youth who defiled all odds to press home their demand for immediate completion of the road to save lives of residents.
As at the time of filing this report, the situation had been brought under control following a promise given by the newly-appointed MCE, Justice Michael Baffoe, who assured the youth that he would personally ensure that the road was fixed within a week.
They youth have, therefore, vowed to do the worst thing in a week’s time, if the new MCE fails to live up to his promise of fixing the road.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased assemblyman and party organiser has been deposited at the Kintampo Government Hospital pending autopsy.
