KG Children Of Frankadua RC Basic Sch Escape Death …From Collapsed Classroom Block
But for timely divine intervention, and the fact that it was a break time, about over 100 kindergarten children of the Frankadua Roman Catholic Basic School in the Asuogyaman District would have been dead.
This follows the collapse of one of three dilapidated classroom blocks, which were built of mud about 28 years ago, through the efforts of the church, but had since not seen any major rehabilitation.
Narrating the chilling incident to the Eastern File, the Headmaster of the school, Mr. Eric Simon Awidom, thanked God for His mercy, since at the time of the incident, the children were on recess.
According to the Headmaster, about a month ago, he was in his office when he heard of a loud noise, and lo and behold, when he got out, found that the dilapidated kindergarten classroom block had collapsed.
He explained that the manner in which the incident occurred would be very disastrous if the children were in class, since all most the children would be dead, because of the way the building caved in.
Mr. Awidom continued that the there were visible cracks in the walls of the building, which was without doors, windows, and had a dirt floor, with a leaking roofing, had become a death trap and was a nightmare for the management of the school for some time.
The situation, he explained, left much to be desired any time it rained, compelling the management of the school to close earlier than normal anytime there were signs of rain.
The innocent children arrive at school and make do with kitchen stools and tables, where they sit in pairs and carry them to and from their respective homes, while there are also no teaching and learning materials.
The Headmaster has, therefore, called on the government, especially, the District Assembly, to immediately save the situation, since the children are still using the remaining two classroom blocks.
