Kenpong Fulfils Cash Pledge To Ghana’s 1963 National Team Stars

db99408824200 298210 Kenpong Fulfils Cash Pledge To Ghanas 1963 National Team StarsKenpong Group of Companies yesterday honoured a GH¢20,000 pledge it made to the ‘63 Year Group of retired Black Stars at the studios of Peace FM last year.

The gesture was in support of an initiative put together by the Peace Power Sports team to reward the 1963 Year Group, winners of the nation’s first Nations Cup silverware.

The Chief Executive of Kenpong Group of Companies, Kennedy ‘Cappucino’ Agyapong, made the pledge during a fund-raising gala dinner at the Sun Lodge Hotel last December.

Reverend Osei Kofi, a key performer of the ’63 Year Group, in his acceptance speech, said, “We are indeed grateful to Kenpong”.

The fund-raising was specifically meant for the ’63 Year Group, and the 50th anniversary fell exactly last year.

“We were here when Ghana celebrated her 50th anniversary, and we all saw the glamour that went with it; why can’t we do the same for a team that won the country’s first major trophy. It would have been something else if it had been in Europe or outside Ghana,” he lamented.

“This gesture has come at the right time; 11 out of 19 colleagues of the ’63 Group who were present at the dinner have been disturbing me with calls to enquire of the money. We thank Kenpong and his team,” he added.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of Kenpong, George Amoako, the financial director of Kenpong Group, who was accompanied by Kofi Poku and Mohammed Alhassan, said, “We at Kenpong have always believed in the promotion and development of football and sports in general.

We are here on behalf of our boss to honour the pledge we made last year. Our past heroes have done our nation proud and we believe they need to be duly recognised,” Amoako stated.
