JUST IN: Government Appoints New Emir Of Gombe
The Gombe State Government has approved the appointment of Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar as the 11th Emir of Gombe. He replaces his father Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, who died last week, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
This follows from an appointment letter delivered by the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Abubakar Bage to the new emir at the Gombe Central Mosque on Friday. The Chief Imam of the mosque Khadi Aliyu Pindiga presented a copy of the Holy Quran to Shehu-Abubakar.
Bage said there were three candidates out of 10 applicants to the throne. After consultations with stakeholders, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo approved the appointment of Shehu-Abubakar.
Shehu-Abubakar, the second son of the late emir, was until his appointment the Santurakin Gombe. He was born on Decemer 17, 1977 in Gombe town and attended Gombe Children Primary School and Government Science Secondary School. The new emir hold a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Maiduguri.
Shehu-Abubakar was a Supervisory Councillor in the Gombe Local Government Council between 2006 and 2007. He then worked as Personal Assistant to the Director of Administration, Ministry of Defence, Abuja, from 2007 to 2009. He also held posts of Chairman of Kliptown Lagoon Nigeria Ltd and Executive Director of Horizon Interlinks Global Resources.
To recall, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar died on May 27 at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London where he was undergoing treatment for cancer. He was buried in Gombe on May 30.
