Jonathan Mensah Wants Clarity on Kwesi Appiah’s Situation

Jonathan Mensah says says the Ghana Football Association needs to clarify the future technical direction of the Black Stars as rumours mount on the future of Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah.

The France-based center back feels time is of the essence ahead of the commencement of the 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers in September and says the GFA must “sort out” what it wants to do with coach Kwesi Appiah as quickly it can.

“We should just sort things out…We have to play qualifiers so we have to sort out everything that will be an inconvenience for the coming qualifier,” Mensah who played in all three of Ghana’s games at the world cup told BBC’s Sports Today.

“This is something the federation needs to settle. I saw one article about a technical director being appointed and the coach doesn’t like the idea or something like that.”

Mensah has emerged as a leading figure in the side after playing in all three games at the 2014 world cup under Appiah but offers only his qualified support for the Black Stars boss.

“I think for us as players it won’t affect us so much because we are always ready to play for any manager”, he said.

“We support him because he is the manager now. If he is not working for the FA anymore we can’t support him. For now he is our manager and we listen to him. He is our coach, he is our manager.”
