John Dumelo Denies Endorsing John Mahama
Following reports that certain individuals have promised to ‘boycott’ movies starring John Dumelo due to what they perceive to be an endorsement of President Mahama during the 2012 general elections, actor John Dumelo has denied ever endorsing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its then presidential candidate.
John Dumelo joined a couple of other movie stars to ‘endorse’ the NDC’s John Mahama in a peace message which was aired on all the television and radio stations in the country.
John Dumelo’s promo asked Ghanaians to consolidate the existing peace in the country.
This gave the indication that the actor has publicly endorsed the NDC even though he did not say so in the short message.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review show last Saturday, the award winning actor explained: “I did not directly endorse NDC…I did a peace commercial or message for Ghanaians which was funded by the NDC party.”
According to John, he did not record any peace message for the other parties because “they didn’t approach me.” However, he recorded messages for other companies who approached him.
Answering questions relating to a story published in the Graphic Showbiz that movie enthusiasts in Kumasi in Ashanti Region, a stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), have promised not to patronize any movie he and another actor, Clement Bonney, popularly known as Mr Beautiful who also publicly endorsed the NDC are featured in, John commented that he was sad about it.
