J Initiative, Centennial College Of Canada Organise Eye Screening Exercise

J Initiative (JI), a grass roots youth and family focused non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to raising awareness on issues that affect families, especially women and children over the weekend organized an eye-screening exercise for Kofi Kwei community in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region.

The aim of the exercise was to promote crisp, and sharp eyesight in order to see print clearly and to read and understand without any hindrance, according to the organizers and sponsors of the event.

The exercise which was made possible by the J Initiative, Centennial College of Canada also afforded children of the farming community and parents to benefit from education on blindness, and the general eye care.

Emergency Reading glasses which were distributed to those who needed it after undergoing a test during the exercise were donated by Centennial College of Canada as part of their annual Global Citizenship Experience & Equity Learning (GCELE) program, while the rest were bought from the Mission Clinic by JI at a heavily discounted rate.

The Mission Clinic’s Optician, William Quarshie said their aim of getting involved formed part of the Clinic’s Outreach program aimed at getting to the people in order for them to access their services at subsidized rates and also to make sure that people have the right information about their eyesight.
