Impact positively on society – Rotarians told

Rotarians have been advised to intensify their effort at impacting positively on the communities they serve.

Speakers at an executive breakfast meeting led by the Governor of International Rotary District 9102, Mr Winfred A. Mensah,  yesterday in Accra underscored the need for Rotarians to place the humanitarian needs of communities above anything else.

Rotary is a volunteer organisation of about 1.2 million business and professional leaders united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service and help build goodwill and peace.

The President of the Ashesi University College, Dr Patrick Awuah, set the tone for the discussion when he spoke on ‘corporate social responsibility is a commitment’.

He observed that it was important for organisations to align their corporate social responsibility with their long-term strategic interest.

Doing so, he explained, would help develop the future workforce of the organisation to help develop its capacity to deliver on its mandate.

Taking his turn, the Chief Executive of UT Bank, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, who spoke on the same topic, recognised the achievements of Rotarians across the world.

He said the purpose of corporate social responsibility was to help advance the cause of people and it was for this reason that the UT Bank had invested in many projects in line with its corporate social responsibility agenda.

Mr Mensah, in his address, called on corporate leaders in Ghana to support Rotary to make a better impact on society and entreated Rotarians to market Rotary to the various societal groups.
