Immigration, STF Intensify Search for Illegal Foreigners in Jos
Jos — Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service and Special Task Force (STF) in the early hours of yesterday conducted a house to house search in some selected communities in Jos north Local Government Area and Bukuru for illegal aliens.
The operation led to the arrest of some people.
Our reporter gathered from residents of the area that the officers stormed Anglo Jos, opposite Nasco Company at around 2amand started banging on doors.
They said some residents were conveyed inside a Hilux van to Sector Four Command of the STF before they were taken to the immigration office at federal secretariat, where there were questioned until 6am.
One of the victims, who gave her name as Amina, said residents thought they were armed robbers because they came at 2am and were banging on doors.
“They arrested us and some women wearing only wrappers around their chest. They took us to the STF Sector Four office and later to the immigration office, where they harassed us and raided insults on us. Later on, they started asking us questions about our source of livelihood and states of origin,” Amina said.
She explained that it was not until 6am that the officers released the women to trek back to their home, while their male counterparts remained in custody of the immigration officials.
According to the victim, there were people from Anguwan Rogo, Rikkos and Anguwan Doki but the immigration officers claimed they were not Nigerians and released most of the women.
When contacted over the incident, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Plateau State Immigration Service, Lipdo Nangwan, asked our reporter to call him back for comment on the issue and could not be reached as text messages sent were unanswered, while his phone was switched off.
