One of Ghana’s Afro-pop musicians, Joseph Mensah Ntim, known in the showbiz scene as JM says he has his eyes on two awards this year – Best Male Vocal Artiste of the Year and Song Writer of the Year – at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards slated for April this year.

JM, who has already filed his nomination papers to contest two categories, told BEATWAVES last Saturday that he deserves the two awards because of his hit songs, adding that his songs such as ‘Heart On Fire’, ‘Engine This Love’, ‘Just Me’, ‘U Too Fine’ among others are known everywhere and music fans always sing along when they are being played on radio.

JM claimed he had done enough as a musician and deserved to be named the Best Male Vocal Artiste of the Year and Song Writer of the Year at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

‘I will be shocked and surprised if I don’t win an award this year. I will win not less than two awards come April this year.’

When asked whether he will be disappointed if he did not win an award this year, JM, in his response said ‘I will be very disappointed if the organizers of the awards scheme reject my nomination. Last year, I released good songs which have made a lot of impact on the music scene. I know I worked hard last year and for an artiste like me to be consistent on the music scene I feel I deserve the two awards.’

The Afro-pop music star who has, indeed, proven beyond all reasonable doubt that he has come to stay, said “It will be tremendous honour and a real thrill for me to have my work acknowledged this year.’

JM was a member of a reggae dancehall group known as AKC4 but is now embarking on a solo musical project to change the trend of the Afro-pop music in Ghana.

JM, who has not relented in his pursuit to make a difference in the Ghanaian music scene, told BEATWAVES that he was happy that he has been able to reach out to a large number of music fans around the country who are satisfied with his music and performance so far.

‘I am more determined to use my songs to change and transform lives of my fans. I am happy that my songs are making an impact on the music scene. I love music and I intend to take Ghanaian music to the next level’.

JM’s producer and manager Enock Agyepong on his part hinted that he was not ready to pay money for an award or for his artiste to be nominated, adding ‘I will be surprised if they fail to nominate my artiste.’
