I will plead with him that if he does not understand he should ask from an economist. I don’t think he understands because if he does, he will not be making such comments,” says Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson for former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Former President Jerry John Rawlings, during the commemoration of the 35th Anniversary of the June 4 revolution, accused the erstwhile Kufuor administration of being corrupt and contributing to the country’s economic crisis as a result of their decision to redenominate the cedi.

Mr. Frank Agyekum who was upset with the ex-President’s comments vehemently debunked claims that his boss is responsible for the current economic crisis facing the country as purported by ex-President Rawlings. He posited that it will be better for him (Rawlings) to look for an economist to explain redenomination of a currency to him because redenomination cannot result in economic crisis.

He told Kwami Sefa-Kayi that “probably he doesn’t understand what went into it because it was well documented and the proper procedures and processes were followed. I will plead with him that if he does not understand he should ask from an economist. I don’t think he understand because if he does, he will not be making such comments. The Vice President was governor at the time and so if there was something wrong, wouldn’t he have said it by now? It was a very good exercise and so if as a former head of state you will make comments like this, I think it is sad”.

Mr. Agyekum again wondered why ex-President Rawlings always attacks his boss at every opportunity he gets, adding “most of what he says are without evidence…you don’t know if those statements are because of envy or jealousy”.
