Hunter Gets 6 Months

He pleaded guilty to both counts and was subsequently sentenced on his own plea by the Dodowa Magistrate Court last Friday. Both charges are to run concurrently.

Also, the convict, who claimed to have been hunting for the past 30 years, was to pay a fine of 20 penalty units, representing GH¢240.

In default, Kobina would serve another month in hard labour at the Akuse Prison.

Briefing myjoyonline.com, the Dodowa District Police Commander, Superintendent Samuel Kwesi Ofori, said at about 2am on August 6, 2014 Kobina Aperkor, a block moulder and a native of Dodowa, went hunting for bush meat around the Chenku forest.

On reaching a distance of about 30 metres away from a farm hut where the complainant, Isaac Narh, and his wife, Georgina Adzo Nagatey, were sleeping, Kobina claimed he saw an animal lying behind Georgina and hurriedly shot it.

However, it turned out that he had shot and killed the complainant’s dog.

Supt. Ofori revealed that some of the pellets fired at the dog injured the lower buttocks and the upper right elbow of Georgina, aged 32.

The 33-year-old farmer, Isaac, also sustained injuries on his feet, the upper left elbow and the left thigh.

They have since been receiving treatment at both the Korle Bu Teaching hospital and the Dodowa hospital.

The police said since Kobina failed to produce documents covering the weapon, the court issued a warrant for its confiscation.
