Hours After Receiving Staff Of Office, New Emir Sanusi Denied Access To Palace

The new Emir of Kano, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, is yet to move into his palace more than 24 hours after he received his appointment letter and staff of office.

Sanusi’s inability to gain access to the palace which is still under lock and key has forced him to rule his subjects from the Naseer House which is situated inside the Government House, Kano.

Under normal circumstances, after receiving the receiving the staff of office, Sanusi would have resumed his royal duties at the palace as has been the tradition but the palace has been cordoned off by the police so as keep troublemakers at bay.

According to report, Sanusi has been advised by the royal fathers to lay low due to the security situation occasioned by the protests that followed his appointment.

Sanusi is said to have been busy receiving visitors at the Government House and he has so far received prominent dignitaries like the Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and business mogul, Alhaji Aliko Dangote among others.

There are reports that the new emir has also been busy holding meetings with the business community in the state who are paying him homage.

However, a source in the Emirate council revealed that the family of the late emir, Ado Bayero, was yet to pay a homage visit to the new emir as part of the tradition to declare their loyalty to him.

ThisDay reports that a hovering helicopter of the Nigerian Air force was seen around the city and the palace, while residents in the emir’s palace also revealed that security had been increased around the palace.

Reports surfaced online this morning that that there was confusion in Kano over rumors that President Goodluck Jonathan had decided to arrest the new Emir Of Kano, Sanusi.

It would also be recalled that there were reports that Sanusi was smuggled out of his house by the government of Kano state following intelligence report that the Federal government was making plans to arrest him.
