Haruna Iddrisu Launches Gonjaland Youth Website
The Minister of Trade and Industry Haruna Iddrisu has commended the Gonjaland Youth Association for bringing Gonjaland to the destination of the new world of Information Technology through its new website www.gonjalandyouth.com
According to Haruna Iddrisu who was representing President Mahama, a website is a social media and empowerment instrument which if managed properly could be used for the betterment of the general public especially the Gonja youth.
He suggested that the website be expanded to go beyond news and information to cover the traditions and culture of the Gonjaland which include customary, traditional and puberty rights.
The Minister made the remarks at the grand launch the Gonjaland Youth Association website and fund raising in aid of building an office secretariat at Sankpala, in the Central Gonja District of Northern Region.
According to him the government’s promise of constructing the Fufulso Damongo road was not for politics and that the road will open up and make it easier for people to visit the areas tourist’s sites especially the Mole Game reserve.
He said government is planning to develop the Buipe area as an industrial hub taking advantage of Volta Lake transportation system and as a start a peanut factory will be opened in Buipe which will provide jobs for the people of the area.
He urged the Youth of Gonjaland to strive and work for development of the area rather than allow themselves to be used to foment trouble and violence.
Mr Iddrisu said the Youth Enterprise Fund as announced by the President in his address at the United Nations will take off in January and that is aimed at supporting young persons in entrepreneurship.
Mr Haruna commended Gonjas for their peaceful nature explaining that if there is a lesson Dagombas will learn from Gonjas, then it is the way Gonjas manage their chieftaincy succession.

He said the website has the potential of strengthening partnership, encouraging a sustained collaboration among members as well as assisting them to communicate better and serve Gonjaland more effectively.
He also explained that the Association is embarking on an ambitious construction of a secretariat and has already acquired a piece of land at Sankpala in the Central Gonja District for the construction to begin.
According to him the Secretariat will comprise an Office, a Guest House and a Conference Centre which the Association intends to complete within a period of five (5) years.
Some prominent personalities in attendance were Dr Mushiebu Mohammed Alfa, Deputy Minister Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Alhaji Alhsaan Bukari,National Chief Farmer and Managing Director of Glico Life, Edward Forkuo Kyei.
Others were Dr Ahmed Nuhu Zakaria, Director National Ambulance Service and Chairman of the Emergency Services Committee of Ghana, Dr Afisah Zakaria. Director Policy Planning,Monitoring and Evaluation of the Ministry of Health, Kanyitiwura Mahamadu Seidu Zakaria, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Deputy Medical Director and consultant, Police Hospital, Colonel Alhassan Abu, Chief of Staff Officer at Army Headquarters and Colonel Seidu Mumuni of the Ghana Armed Forces.
