Gyankama Defies Heavy Rains At Odwira
THE CHIEFS and people of Gyankama in the Akuapem South District of the Eastern Region defied the Sunday, October 19, 2013 heavy downpour to finalise their annual Odwira festival procession throughout the town.
The rains which started as light showers within minutes turned very stormy and lasted close to an hour, but could not mar the beauty of the ceremony.
The theme for the 2013 Odwira festival was ‘Educating Our Youth, Our Priority, Our Concern’.
The Apagyahene of Aburiman, Nana Aboah Kwame commended the chiefs and people of Gyankama for their firm stance to establish their own traditional authority.
He urged the people to unite to develop their community and bury any differences.
The chief of Gyankama, Nana Kwadwo Ntow, said he would mobilize every effort to construct an ultra modern community library to serve as a reference centre for the schools and youth of the community.
He appealed to parents to bring up their children properly so that they would grow up holding on to good values of life.
The Amankrado of Gyankama, Nana Osae Abotow II, appealed to the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) to help check drivers who unnecessarily indulged in over speeding.
The Amankrado who spoke on a number of issues also appealed to parents to help their children, especially the girls, to stay through all levels of their education.
Nana Osae Abotow II further paid glowing tribute to the development queen mother, Nana Akua Kesewa I, who is the Marketing Manager for ASHFOAM for her contributions towards development in the area.
