Gunmen Burn School, Hotel In Maiduguri
Unknown gunmen, on Saturday, burnt a school and a hotel and also robbed a prominent businessman in Maiduguri.
Witnesses said that the gunmen, numbering over 10, stormed the Royal Day Nursery and Primary School at Bolori layout in Maiduguri in the early hours of the night and set all the buildings ablaze.
An insider said this was the second time that the school was burnt in less than two years, a damage that caused a halt in its activities.
“We would be compelled to tell parents to keep their children at home,” a source at the school said.
Around the same time, another group of gunmen burnt the Mary Joe hotel also in Bolori area of the Metropolis, witnesses said.
Residents of the area said workers and few guests at the hotel fled when they got a hint that the place would be burnt.
It was gathered that earlier in the day, some gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers, trailed an expatriate businessman to his Bulunkutu residence in Maiduguri and dispossessed him of his car when they could not get money from him,” witnesses said.
The victim, a national of Yemen, popularly known as Khatam was reportedly born and brought up in Maiduguri even as witnesses said that the attackers ambushed him as he went home for lunch.
There was no official statement on all the three incidences from the both the Joint Task Force (JTF) and the police as they could not be reached as at press time.
