GOOD NEWS: Governor Pays Outstanding Salary To Avert Workers’ Wrath

The Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang on Thursday averted protests by workers that would have marred the May Day celebration in Jos, on when he reportedly hurriedly paid one month out of the two months he was owing the state’s workers.

According to PUNCH online, the workers had planned to march to the governor’s residence at Du village in Jos South to register their displeasure over the two months salary arrears.

It was gathered that when government officials learnt about the workers’ plans, they informed the governor who hurriedly provided money for the payment of one month salary arrears.

One of the state’s workers, who did not want his name to be revealed, said that they had planned to make the May Day celebrations in the state a bloody one.

“We thank God that sanity prevailed otherwise it would have been a terrible May Day on the Platea,” the source told newsmen.

However, it was gathered at the 2014 Workers’ Day celebration at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos that workers in the Plateau State Civil Service had not been promoted in the last eight years.

According to the Chairman of the Plateau State Chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Jibrin Bancir, “For over eight years, workers in the public service of Plateau State have been denied promotion for no reason.

“This is a government that pledged the payment of salaries before the 25th of every month. Today, two months down the line, no salary has been paid.”
