Girl, 18, Killed in Kafanchan’s Police, Youth Clash
Kaduna — An 18-year-old girl was yesterday killed by a stray bullet fired during a clash between youth and policemen at a High Court premises in Kafanchan.
Abigail Suzan Daniel Alamagani who hails from Zokwa village in Kafanchan was hit by the stray bullet at a local restaurant when hundreds of youth blocked a police vehicle conveying a Lawyer they were waiting to mop.
The incident caused panic in Kafanchan and as a result, a police corporal was injured on the forehead and is currently receiving treatment at the General hospital in Kafanchan. The house of another police man who reportedly saved the lawyer at the court premises was set ablaze, Weekly Trust learnt .
Weekly Trust gathered that the protests started at the premises of a High court sitting in Kafanchan when Justice David Shiri Wyom failed to deliver judgement in a case involving Mr. Philemon Gora owner of CASH FLOW FBI, a company whose account and assets were allegedly frozen and sealed.
“Philemon Gora came out from the court to address us that the judgment will not be delivered today (yesterday) and there was rancour. The police rushed to the court premises to disperse us and possibly save the life of a lawyer who over 100 youth were waiting to mop. As the police men were shooting to scare us, the stray bullet hit a lady at a restaurant and she died instantly,” an eyes witness said.
When contacted, Kaduna State Police Spokesman, Aminu Lawan said the police were at the court premises to save the life of a lawyer after they got information of a planned attack on him.
“On getting there, the youth were more than 100 waiting for the lawyer, but the police shot in the air to disperse them and a lady was killed by a stray bullet” Lawan said.
