Kwadwo Asamoah returns to Ghana midfield against Mali

Kwadwo Asamoah has been restored to his normal midfield role for Ghana’s crucial game against Mali on Thursday.

The 24-year-old has been good in an awkward left-back position for the Black Stars at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Asamoah scored and set up another from his make-shift defensive role in Ghana’s 2-2 draw with DR Congo in the opening Group B game last Sunday.

He has however been restored to Ghana’s midfield in order to unleash his full potential in the must win game against Mali on Thursday.

Asamoah has been playing a similar defensive role for his club Juventus.

But concerns have been raised over his efficiency in that position – with many believing his vast potential is being limited when pinned in defence.

Coach Akwasi Appiah has now decided to push the talented left-footer into midfield to give his team more creative opportunities needed for the win aganist Mali.

Asamoah will now be expected to provide the vital assists for lone striker Asamoah Gyan and other players including himself to score.

Ghana starting line-up: Fatau Dauda, John Pantsil, Harrison Afful, Isaac Vorsah, John Boye, Rabiu Mohammed, Albert Adomah, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Kwadwo Asamoah, Asamoah Gyan, Mubarak Wakaso.
