Ghanaian striker Abdul Basit Adams delighted to rescue Free State Stars
Free State Stars hero Abdul-Basit Adams has breathed a sigh of relief after his team survived demotion in the South African Premier Soccer League.
The former New Edubiase United striker scored two goals as Ea Lla Koto defeated Moroka Swallows 3-0 to lift themselves out of the relegation/play-offs spot.
The team finished in position fourteen with 29 points from 30 matches.
Adams says that the team’s season was not impressive from the start amongst other factors but they were able to rise above their mistakes and save their place in the Premiership.
“It was really frustrating for me as a new player and more especially as a striker to be finding ourselves languishing at the basement of the log for the better part of the season,” said Adams.
“If one looks at how we started the season it was not an impressive start at all. We lost the opener by a heavy 4-0 defeat. There are many factors that contributed to the bad season we had at the club, firstly the changes in the technical team and also the number of injuries we experienced throughout the season.
He added that: “I am happy that at least I contributed to the club’s survival with my 8 goals in all competitions and one hopes that in the new season I will double or triple my goal tally,” he concluded.
