Ghana Red Cross Society Train People On Immunization Exercise
The Ghana Red Cross Society and America Red Cross Society with support from Ghana Health Service have trained nine hundred (900) volunteers on the need to educate the public on immunization exercise.
Ghana Red Cross Society has recognized that immunization exercise has become standstill as a result of unawareness about the exercise.
According to the Regional Manager Mr. Eric AsamoahDarko, the Society recruited 900 volunteers to embark on social mobilization to educate mothers especially on the need and importance of embarking on routine exercise.
”In Accra for example, mothers do not have knowledge about the important of the immunization exercise and the rate is 50%” He added.
The society has therefore selected seven districts thus Tema, Nkwatanan, Lekma, Accra Metro among others for now.
The volunteers are well trained and they are to move from house to house with referral card for the immunization exercise specifically.
Parents shouldn’t panic about the immunization, for it will be of help to the children to avoid early death – He added.
Justina Amankwah from Lekja kuku health directorates of Ghana Health Service, giving the health status of the Ghanaian immunization, said the issue got to do with defaulted immunization with the special emphasis on missiles vaccination. We are collaborating with the Red Cross to speak to mother why is necessary for them to immunize their children.
”We doing this to have a good coverage for our children, the introduction of these vaccines does not mean that children at risks but rather excluding them from death” – She added.
Mr Thomas Aapore, National Health Programme Co-ordinator of Ghana Red Cross Society also added his voice by saying ”the training aims at strengthening immunization and educate mothers about the necessity about immunization vaccination”.
This is first of its kind in Greater Accra and it’s a routine activity – He concluded.
Louisa Gyasie and Fosuhema Adonteng both participant of the training which was held on the 7 day of June 2014 at Kinbu Senior High School expressed their gratitude to Ghana Red Cross Society for this initiative and asked for more.
