Ghana Not Too Broke To Host AFCON 2017 – Deputy Sports Minister

Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Vincent Oppong Asamoah has confirmed government’s preparedness to bid for, and host the 2017 African Cup of Nations despite talks about the recent economic predicaments in the country.

The minister insists that the country is not in a dire economic situation to host the tournament as been argued and says Ghana is like a heaven compared to other bidders and previous hosts.

Oppong Asamoah told Kumasi-based Angel FM “We have put in the bid and we are ready to host it when given the nod”,

“If you hear people say all these things about hard economic conditions and you start to think where these people are coming from, or where were they when we hosted the tournament in 2008.

“The fact is we have never been broke as a country and never been rich too.

“If you travel around Africa and see some of these countries that have hosted the AFCON and see their conditions there you will realise that Ghana is a heaven in Africa and you will appreciate.

“We will start lobbying very soon because we are good at that as a nation,” he said.
