Ghana In Big Trouble -Bawumia
THE 2012 VICE presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has described Ghana as ‘a country which is in a big financial trouble and on the brink of collapsing.’
He said government could not pay contractors for work done and all social intervention programmes introduced by the NPP government, including the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the School Feeding Programme were dying.
Addressing a colossal number of party faithful in Kumasi on Friday, Dr. Bawumia pointed out that ‘Clearly, everything points to the fact that Ghana is currently lacking an effective leader to lead the country to affluence.’
He observed that the bad leadership style being displayed by President Mahama and his team had resulted in pushing Ghana into a hopeless situation where the citizenry have totally lost hope.
Dr. Bawumia likened Ghana’s situation to a scenario where one better mason – the NPP – which is craving to build an unprecedented mansion for the house owner, has been prevented from doing so. In place of the better mason, a bad mason – the NDC – which doesn’t have the technical expertise, has maneuvered to secure the contract to build the house and is messing things up.
Dr. Bawumia described the bad mason as a ‘liar, thief and corrupt’ whose modus operandi is to keep a bulk of the money given to him to erect the house, to enrich himself and so ended up doing a shoddy work.
He said the house, which the NDC administration, led by President Mahama is building for Ghana, doesn’t have enough cement in it therefore it could collapse after a slight wind.
Dr. Bawumia said instead of buying ten bags of cement, President Mahama and his team of ‘greedy’ officials, would buy just one bag of cement and use the rest of the money to buy guinea fowl and expend on other ‘useless ventures.’
According to him, the NDC is a bad mason which could not build the better Ghana that the citizenry wish to see but it (NDC) was still hanging onto the project because of greed.
The former NPP vice presidential candidate debunked NDC’s assertions that the economy is facing challenges due to the sharp drop in the prices of commodities such as cocoa and gold, on the international market.
He noted that contrary to the NDCs claim, cocoa prices increased by 52% under this administration, as compared to the period under the NPP administration which left office about six years ago.
Again, Dr. Bawumia noted that prices of gold were also higher by staggering 172% under the President Mahama-led government when compared with the erstwhile NPP administration.
On top of these, he observed that the NDC administration had borrowed huge sums of money and also collected large revenue from the citizenry, yet the government is crying over lack of money in the system.
He pointed out that Ghana’s economy was in a mess basically because the President and his officials took delight in expending state resources on themselves at the expense of the masses which voted them into power.
Dr. Bawumia, who spoke fluent Twi, told the large audience that the government was in its element when it came to coming out with fake programmes to milk state funds.
Dr. Bawumia noted that Ghana needed a decisive and visionary leader like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who has the knowledge and experience to implement better policies to take the country to the Promised Land.
He therefore cautioned the NPP delegates not to replace Nana Akufo-Addo with anybody else as flagbearer for the 2016 polls.
Dr. Bawumia argued that Nana Akufo- Addo had been properly marketed by the party across the length and breadth of the country therefore it wouldn’t make sense for the NPP to change him at a time that he stands a better chance to win.
He claimed that Nana Akufo-Addo, from what happened at the Supreme Court during the election petition, won the 2012 polls, but he was dribbled at the last minute, saying Nana would win the polls in 2016.
