Ghana Fa To Hold Sit-down With Black Stars Returnees Over Outstanding Issues
By Ameenu Shardow
The Ghana FA will be meeting the Black Stars returnees to address their concerns raised when quitting the national team.
All Ghanaian players are now available for Black Stars selection with the only exception being Michael Essien.
Andre Ayew and his younger brother wrote to the Ghana FA on Friday to confirm their decision to return to the side after taking a temporary sabbatical.
AC Milan duo Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari had also written to the GFA a day earlier to confirm their desire to return to the team.
The various issues raised by these players (excluding Muntari) in their communication to the GFA when leaving the Black Stars however remain regardless of their decision to stage their returns.
Andre Ayew claimed he had some issues with the some members of the team’s management committee while his younger brother and Olympique Marseille teammate Jordan Ayew also wants assurances of a regular Black Stars call up on the back of impressive displays for his club.
Kevin-Prince Boateng on the other hand said playing for both club and country was having an adverse toll on his health.
These issues remain outstanding despite their decisions to return and the GFA will be looking to address these issues conclusively when the players are invited for future Black Stars assignments.
‘Someone like Andre raised an issue with the management members,’ GFA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie-Daara told Accra-based Montie FM.
‘So we look to sit down with him to listen to his concerns and not that he has written then that’s all.
‘These issues could crop up by way of perception and we look to go into them with the players.
‘Jordan also raised the issue of getting a regular place and he didn’t say this in bad faith.
‘So we will speak to them on their return in order to solve these issues conclusively.’
The four returnees could be invited to rejoin the Black Stars in the squad to first face Zambia in a crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier and then an international friendly against Japan early next month.
Coach Akwasi Appiah is expected to name his squad next week to begin the final phase of preparations towards these games.
