Ghana defender John Paintsil has started training with South African club Santos FC as he opens a new chapter in pursuit of a new club.
The ex Fulham defender has been in search for a new club since his release from Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv at the end of last season.
The 32-year-old started training with Santos on Tuesday in the hope to secure a club following failed attempts earlier in the summer.
Santos coach David Notoane is looking forward to helping the Ghana international regain his full fitness as he deems him a vital addition to his squad with the Ghanaians vast experience.
“We do have him [Paintsil] here. He is training with us. He started today (Tuesday). We’ll look at what his condition is, his fitness and things like that,” Santos coach Notoane confirmed.
“With his experience, we are looking forward to keeping him in the team.
“It’s good for the team to have a player of his quality and experience to guide the younger players.
“That’s why I told the chairman (Goolam Allie) when he approached me that I would be happy to keep the player here.”
Paintsil had trials with English lower tier Milwall in the summer but he failed to land a permanent deal.
