Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he is interested in victories for his UAE club Al Ain rather than him scoring goals for the giant club.

The on-fire attacker was not on target on Tuesday night when they played out to a 1-1 draw against Saudi giants Al Ittihad in the Asian Champions League match.

Despite the result, Al Ain are through to the next phase of the competition.

Gyan, who is Al Ain’s top scorer insists that he is not worried about him scoring as he prefers his club to win their matches instead.

“It’s not a bother to me that I did not score today, but I am happy with my work rate and my ability to make sure that I help my team grab at least a point. At the end of the day, it goes down to team work,” Gyan said.

“My colleagues will tell you that I don’t go out of my way to score goals, it comes naturally to me, because though a striker, I always look out for a better option than me to score, if there is any.

“Sometimes my coach tells me that I should have scored this goal or that goal, so why did I pass it to the other player to score.

“I tell him, that he was in a better position than me. Now we have won, they won’t say Asamoah Gyan won, they will say Al-Ain won and that is good for me.”

Gyan is confident Al Ain can win the Asian Champions League title as they have lost just one of the six matches they have played so far in the competition.

“So far we are leading our group with 11 points and only one point separating us from Ittihad and that to me is great because we have automatically won our group and we are waiting for our next opponents in this competition,” he said.
