GHACEM Assists Deprived Communities

GHACEM Limited has donated 8,000 bags of cement to deprived communities in the northern parts of the country
The donation, which was made last week Friday in Kumasi, is the last of two distributions, which have been carried out by the company this year.
Known as the GHACEM Cement Foundation (GCF), the Secretariat was set up in 2002 by GHACEM to assist in the development of health and educational institutions in deprived communities in the country.
The foundation, since its establishment, has donated about 360,000 bags of cement at a cost of about GHC8.2 million to such deprived communities in the country.
The beneficiary schools and hospitals at the event were drawn from the Northern Sector of the country, which comprises the Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions.
The Western, Central, Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta Region formed part of the Southern Sector of the country that benefited from the free cement under GCF in the first edition of the distribution this year.
In his welcome address, Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, Secretary to the foundation, on behalf of the Foundation’s council members, commended the beneficiaries for showing interest in ensuring development at their doorsteps, which informed their decision to apply for the free cement.
Delivering his keynote address, the Managing Director of GHACEM, Morten Gade, noted that the thrust of the GHACEM Cement Foundation to increase the yearly support to deprived communities is being threatened by the unfortunate current development in the Ghanaian economy, notably being the unreliable electricity supply and the local currency’s free fall against major international currencies
Mr. Gade however gave the assurance that GHACEM was committed to maintaining its market leadership position by producing and delivering innovative high-quality, cost-effective and environmentally responsible cement products to the Ghanaian market and will continue to add to these products through an uncompromising commitment to customer service to optimize customer satisfaction.
