Hearts board Frank Nelson fears the club will struggle to augment their squad with quality players ahead of their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup next year.

The Accra-based side will settle for Africa’s second-rated inter-club competition after placing third in the just ended First Capital Plus Premier League.

Hearts could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to New Edubiase last Wednesday to condemn to the Confederation Cup competition.

The former African champions have struggled to rediscover the form that made them giants in 2000 where they swept every trophy on the continent.

They are back in business again after missing out for close to seven years and board member Franks Nelson is worried they might not be able to attract top players.

‘The question is not about money. The issue got to do with whether we can get quality players to play for us,’ he said

‘When you’re playing in Africa, you need experienced and quality additions.

‘My only worry is whether we can get them on board to help us achieve our target.

‘We’re working to ensure we don’t end up becoming just participants but challenge for the title.’
