Fetish Priest Murdered

KILLED! Nana Obinim Asare
Four Teenagers and two of their accomplices have been caged by the police in the eastern Region for allegedly murdering a herbalist, Nana Obinim Asare, aged 46 and his secretary, Owusu Asare, 22 – said to be natives of Benin Republic – at Kwahu-Besease.

They are Abdul Malik, 17; Kwame Fosu, 19; John Wuah, 17; Isaac Kwame, 19; Akwasi Alhassan, 22 and Richard Sarpong, 20.

The six were said to have clubbed the herbalist and his secretary to death with a pestle at their residence at about 10:00 pm on Wednesday, July 30, 2014.

The suspects reportedly gave an amount of gH¢10,000.00 to the deceased herbalist after they were promised the money could be multiplied to become gH¢1 million.

The herbalist however, reneged on his promise after taking the money and went into hiding.

An eyewitness by name Kojo, told DAILY GUIDE that last Wednesday night he heard some strange noise from the fetish priest’s house and within a twinkle of an eye, he heard that the man’s car was being moved away at top speed.

The eyewitness disclosed that he became suspicious and immediately called to inform the Kwahu-Praso night patrol team about the incident.

He said the police spotted the car parked near the Besease cemetery, and hid in the bush and later saw the suspected killers coming from the cemetery. They were immediately arrested.

The paper gathered that the chief of Kwahu-Besease, nana Owusu Kyere II and his elders, together with some of the nkawkaw police personnel, Thursday afternoon stormed the cemetery to exhume the corpses. deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP James Azumah Abass Abaah, who confirmed the story to DAILY GUIDE, said all the suspects were residents of Jejeti near Anyinam in the eastern Region.

during interrogation, the police chief said the suspects confessed to the crime and led the police to an unmarked grave where they had buried the two after killing them in cold blood.

In an encounter on that fateful Wednesday when it had become clear that the fetish priest and his linguist had been playing hide-and-seek with them, the suspects purportedly killed the two men.

They then carried the remains to the cemetery where they found a freshly dug grave (probably meant for someone’s burial on Saturday) and buried them.

The bodies of the two have since been deposited at the morgue at the Holy Family Hospital, Nkawkaw and awaiting autopsy.

The Kwahu-Praso police indicated that investigations were still ongoing.

ACP Abass Abaah cautioned the public, especially young men, to be careful of spiritualists or herbalists who promise instant riches, stressing that such promises were fraudulent.

The Nkawkaw Municpal Police Commander, DSP Gyaben Maanu, told this paper that the suspects had been charged for murdering and would be sent to court on Monday.
