The Nigerian Police has announced the arrest of the female pastor, Fine Oru, who allegedly burnt the face of her 10-year-old niece, Grace Opion, with a hot spoon at the Egbenda community, off Ox-Bow road, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Sahara Reporters states that Oru, who is the Assistant General Overseer of the ‘Heart Beat of God Bible Church,’ on Ompadec road, in Yenagoa, said she decided to burn her niece’s face with hot spoon to avenge what she (niece) did to her one year old grandson.
While narrating what her niece did to her grandson, Oru was quoted to have said that she had left her one year old grandson in the care of Grace and travelled to Otueke on Friday for a burial.
She stated that when she returned on Saturday morning that she noticed that part of the boy’s face was burnt, and the boy told her it was Grace that was responsible.
According to Police from the Azikoro Police Division in Bayelsa, Oru, 46, who hails from Otueke, the Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa, stated that: ”I said okay, don’t worry. What you did to him, I will also do to you. As I was trying to do to her, the same thing, she was struggling.
“I and my sister were telling her to keep her face steady so that the hot spoon will not touch all her face, but she refused. So the thing now burnt her face like this.”
It was gathered that after inflicting the pain on the girl, the pastor abandoned her and her grandson and went to the market.
Report stated that the cry of the girl in pain drew the attention of neighbours, who in turn alerted the police.
Stating what happened to the police, Grace debunked the female pastor’s claim stating that it was the little boy who picked the spoon up where she kept it while cooking and touched it on his face.
While confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Bayelsa State, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, said now that the Azikoro Police Division has arrested the pastor that investigation would continue on the incident.
