Fear Has Gripped The Camp Of Nana Addo….

fb5562756150 171127 Fear Has Gripped The Camp Of Nana Addo….A Leading Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Asamoah Gyamfi, claims the camp of the party’s twice defeated Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo, is in a state of fear following attempts by some leading members of the party to convince the current executives to delay the organization of its National Delegates Congress.

Former Minister for Information in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Hon. Asamoah Boateng, is reported to have slammed those pushing for an immediate proposal from the newly elected national executives for the selection of a Flagbearer for the party, saying it is a wrong approach to end factionalism in the NPP.

According to the former Member of Parliament for the people of Mfantseman West, the NPP just held its Delegates’ Conference in Tamale with the election new leaders with different ideas, thus the party needs to rather focus on re-structuring and strengthening its bases to make it a more formidable political entity to wrestle power from the NDC.

He stressed that what NPP needs after its Conference is to allow the new crop of current executives to have ample time and space to build the party from the grassroots by giving enough attention to the polling stations and its constituencies where the party’s strength lies.

Reacting to the stance of Hon. Asamoah Boateng, the NPP communicator averred on Ghana Decides program on Okay Fm, saying the proposition of the former Mfantseman West MP will undermine the constitution of the party as the law demands the national executive of the party to nominate a Flagbearer within 24 months.

He stressed that the 24 months has become necessary as time is needed to heal and reconcile with people who will lose the Flagbearership race, adding the idea to nominate a Flagbearer within 3 months to the general election will rather make it difficult to unite the party to wrestle power from the NDC.

He dismissed suggestions that the party is weak on the ground and therefore needs to be strengthened at the polling station level and insisted that its representatives at the polling station level need education on electoral rules.

To him, the fear of delaying the congress has hit the camp of Nana Addo due to the fact that the current executives hail from the camp of Alan Kyerematen and attempts are being made to buy time to market his (Alan’s) candidature by deliberately delaying the congress.

“For me everything is set for the congress and after 3 months the executives should able to come up with a date to organize the congress….but that is the fear in Nana Addo’s camp because the person they wanted to be the chairman did not win; they perceive that Paul Afoko is for Alan Kyerematen and there is a possibility congress might be delayed for Alan to sell himself….we saw the excitement of Alan when Paul Afoko won the chairmanship as he rooted for total change in the entire leadership of NPP,” he asserted.
