Angry customers of Ezi Savings and Loans Limited yesterday stormed the company’s office at Newtown, Accra to demand their monies.

According to the customers, the company has failed to give them their monies over the past month.

They said they had heard rumours that the company would collapse soon.

When BUSINESS GUIDE  visited the company’s office in Newtown yesterday afternoon, there was commotion at the place, as the angry customers attempted to break into the office of the savings and loans company.

But police personnel moved to the area to ensure calm and protect the property of the microfinance company.

Some of the customers, who spoke to BUSINESS GUIDE, said since last month, the savings and loans company had refused to give them the exact money they intended to withdraw.

‘When we inquired from management of the company why we were being treated in that manner, we were told that the company does not have enough money to satisfy our demand.

‘The company is not telling us the truth about the whole situation. Because we have heard that the company is collapsing that is why they can’t give us the amount we needed. We will not allow them to run away with our money,’ an angry customer said.

Silvia Adzimah, Branch Manager of the company told BUSINESS GUIDE, in an interview, that the situation was publicized after some Nigerians encountered problems in accessing their monies at the Nungua branch.

According to her, the Nigerians, who could not access their money, started spreading rumors that the company was collapsing.

She described the subsequent rush for deposits by clients as a panic withdrawal triggered by rumours that the institution was facing an imminent shutdown.

‘I want to assure all our customers that we are not collapsing as it is being rumoured. We have about nine branches across the country and there is no way we can run with people’s monies. I urge all our customers to exercise patience,’ Ms Adzimah said.
