TP Mazembe coach Patrice Carteron is backing Ghana to eliminate Egypt in the 2014 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
Carteron, then Mali coach, played against Ghana twice at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations including the 3-1 third-placed playoff victory.
Ghana will host the seven-time African champions at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on 15 October.
The return leg will be played in Cairo on 19 November.
Carteron believes Ghana have the experience to see off Egypt’s threat.
”I personally hope that Ghana will go to the World Cup in Brazil, I hope they beat Egypt who also has a great squad but Ghana for me has a fantastic generation,” the Frenchman said.
“After what Ghana did at the last World Cup in South Africa I would really love to see them in Brazil because at the moment this Ghana team can go far.”
Ghana are seeking a third successive World Cup finals appearance and Egypt are chasing their first qualification since 1990.
