The 33-year-old Englishman will tee off at the Wentworth Club on Thursday hoping to add the BMW PGA Championship to his US Open title from last year.

Rose finished second at Wentworth in 2012 and 2007, and would rate a victory in Surrey alongside his US Open triumph at Merion Golf Club in June 2013.

“I call it a ‘bucket-list event’, obviously you’ve got the major and some other big tournaments but Wentworth’s right up there with the events that I really want to win at some point,” the Englishman said.

“I’ve been close here in the past and a couple second place finishes, to go one better is definitely something I would love to happen.”

Rose said his form is heading in the right direction with the South African-born golfer having claimed a share of fourth at The Players Championship, after fifth at the Wells Fargo Championship and a T8 finish at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

The world number eight claimed he is on track to become the first man to win consecutive US Open titles since 1989.

“I feel like I’m rounding into some nice form to be honest with you,” Rose said.

“I’m trying to peak for a few weeks’ time. To put up a good defence of my title, I’ve been channelling Curtis Strange as the last guy to do it in ’88, ’89. It’s definitely possible.”
