Ghanaian drummer based in Germany, Ekow Alabi Savage, and his sweetheart, Sharon Marley Prendergast, officially tied the love knot at a private family location in Accra last Tuesday, May 13.
Ekow first met Sharon in 1991 and 23 years later the love connection has finally brought them together as husband and wife.
Ekow, a great exponent and promoter of Ghanaian and African music around the world, was a founding member of the Roots Anabo music group which was the Africa reggae band to perform at the famous Reggae Sunsplash festival in Jamaica in 1984.
He has toured the world with his music later on as a solo artiste and is veteran guitarist Ebo Taylor’s current drummer.
Ekow has also worked with several other artistes including Kora Award winner Ade Bantu, Pat Thomas, Kojo Antwi, Eeka Mouse (Jamaica), Reality Brothers (Germany), Vitamin X and Jimi Tenor.
Sharon Marley Prendergast is a singer, dancer, and curator. She is the biological daughter of Rita Marley and was adopted by Bob Marley when the two married.
She was in the group, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers along with her younger sister and brothers. With the group, she has won three Grammy awards.
Dr Erica Bennett, Ambassador for the Diasporan African Forum (DAF) headquartered in Accra, was present at the marriage ceremony to represent Rita Marley who had travelled out of the country.
“The Marley family is an iconic family and they welcome you into their family.
May both of you, Mr and Mrs Savage, have health, happiness and wealth,” Dr Bennett said.
