Ehalakasa festival 2013 coming
‘The upcoming festival will be a manifestation by the new generation, the fresh and the underground who over the years have sacrificed to keep the fire (Ehalakasa performances) blazing from the page to the stage, affecting and impacting all lives in the land with their words, power and spirit,’ says the movement’s organiser and spokesman, Sir Black.
Activities laid out for the festival are spoken word poetry workshops from 9.00am to 1.00pm at Tema Secondary School (October 23), Ghanata Senior High School, Dodowa (October 24) and Accra Academy (October 25).
There will be Ehalakasa performances during the night (7.00p.m) at Osu Smoothy’s in Accra (October 23), Republic Bar in Accra (October 24) and W.E.B Du Bois Memorial Centre, Accra (October 25).
Ehalakasa concerts have been scheduled for Alliance Francaise , Accra at 7.00p.m on October 26 and at Nubuke Foundation in Accra at 6.00pm on October 27.
Members of the Ehalakasa movement are expected to play active roles in the festival activities include Mutombo The Poet, DK Osei Yaw, Jahwi, Kwame Write, Poetra and Nana Nyarko Boateng.
‘We believe the festival will help us unearth new artistes and stimulate the abilities of young Ghanaians and lovers of the art of spoken word poetry for creative imagination,’ stated Sir Black who has participated in several festivals, exhibitions and workshops in several countries to promote Ehalakasa.
‘We urge everyone to join us realise this immensely beneficial cultural activity,’ the Ehalakasa spokesman added.
According to him, visiting poets for the festival are Sarah Kay, Sara Holdbrook, Michael Salinger and Dahveed Nelson, all from the United States.
