Egypt: Patterson Leaves Cairo After End of Term
A well-informed diplomatic source said that US Ambassador to Egypt Ann Patterson left Cairo Thursday, returning to Washington, after her term in Cairo has ended.
The US Department of State has cabled Egyptian authorities about nominating veteran diplomat David Satterfield, head of the Multinational Force and Observers mission in Egypt, to serve as temporary charge d’affaires until a new ambassador is named.
Patterson joined the foreign service in 1973 and was promoted to Career Ambassador, the highest rank in the career foreign service, in 2008. She has been ambassador to Pakistan (2007-2010), ambassador to Colombia (2000-2003) and ambassador to El Salvador (1997-2000). She has also served as Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
