Education Minister visits schools in Upper West
Gwollu (U/W), Oct. 8, GNA – Professor Naana Jana Opoku-Agyemang, the Minister of Education, has appealed to students in second cycle institutions to concentrate on their studies and not rush into doing things that would turn them into premature parents.
She said the only reason their parents sent them to school was for them to study and become successful in life and that becoming a premature parent would not only tarnish that dream but also put extra burden on their parents.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemeng said this when she toured some basic, second cycle and tertiary institutions in the Wa MunicipalIty, Sissala West and Sissala East Districts of the Upper West Region.
Schools the Minister visited included Wa Model School in the Wa Municipality, Zini Primary/Junior High Schools and Dr. Hilla Limann SHS in the Sissala West District.
The rest were Kanton SHS, Tumu Seconadary Technical and Tumu College of Education all in Tumu in the Sissala East District.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who was on her maiden visit to the region as Minister of Education, said the tour was to enable her acquaint herself with some of the challenges in the schools and to see how best the Ministry could help address them to enhance quality education delivery.
She also advised teachers to eschew all forms of laziness and put on their best for the success of the students.
Kuoro Barecheh Nlowie Baniny II, the Chief of Niator and the Acting President of the Buwa Tradional Area reminded the Minister about their request for a SHS, adding that the request if granted would help improve access to SHS education by the youth of the area.
