New Edubiase United defender Christopha Agbashie has apologized for his blunder which resulted in the 1-0 defeat to Kotoko last Sunday in the Ghana Premier League.
The match at the Baba Yara Stadium was heading for a draw when Agbashie handled a cross inside the box in the 94th minutes.
Referee A.D. Mohammed pointed to the spot and Kotoko defender Kwabena Edusei clinically converted to seal the points.
Moments after the referee whistle to bring the match to an end.
Agbashie incurred the wrath of officials and supporters of the club for being the cause of their defeat.
But the player explained his action was not deliberate.
“I did not intentionally hit the ball with my hand as some people are speculating. I was determined to clear the ball from the danger zone so I jumped very high to challenge Yahaya Mohammed and it was when I was landing that my hand hit the ball,” Agbashie told Graphic Sports.
“Officials of New Edubiase and our fans are aware of my commitment to the team, so there is no way I will intentionally do anything to undermine progress of the team I cherish so much.”
