Municipal Chief Executive of East Akyem, Honourable Simon Peter Asirifi, has expressed joy at the way illegal mining has been reduced in the area but has still called on security agencies and the general public to further intensify the fight on illegal miners.
He stated that the Assembly was committed to doing their best in making sure the activity is totally wiped out from the municipality.
Hon. Asirifi made these comments at the assembly’s 2nd general meeting in Kyebi.
He was worried about the poor performance of some schools in last year’s Basic education certificate examination and has appealed to the municipal directorate to put down measures to improve the quality of education in the municipality.
“One problem which disrupts of smooth academic work of some schools is rainstorm disaster, which rips off roofs of school buildings.I therefore appeal to the education directorate to plant trees at vantage points to serve as wind breaks,” he emphasized.
Hon. Simon Asirifi said the assembly recognized the importance of goods and due to that Asafo – Agyapoma, Adukrom- Agyapoma and Akim Odumase-kwasi komfo roads have been reshaped.
On health, the MCE challenged assembly members to help organise clean-up exercises in order to desilt potholes and gutters of rubbish.
He also charged food vendors in the municipality to take part in the ongoing screening exercise being organised by the assembly.
