“It is very sad we have lost him, and we are thinking in a long term how to build upon Komla’s memories,” he stated.

He recounted that Komla was working in Ghana before moving on to join the BBC, adding that he allowed himself to be mentored at the BBC, which enabled him to excel.

He said the late Komla was able to mentor several other international journalists working with the BBC.

Mr Horrocks made these remarks in an exclusive interview with the Ghana News Agency during a requiem mass service in honour of Komla at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra.

He said Komla was a wonderful person who took his work very seriously, and was very passionate about the African continent.

He said Komla gave a fair and balanced reportage in his news coverage.

The BBC Director urged young African journalists to emulate Komla’s exemplary life, and they would rise to stardom.

It would be recalled that Komla died on January 18 from a heart failure in London, at the age of 41.
