"Don’t reject President’s nominees"-Minister
Accra, Aug. 18, GNA – Madam Mavis Amah Frimpong, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister on Saturday urged activists of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from rejecting the President’s nominees for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives.
She said research has shown that in districts where the nominees were rejected; there were divisions among constituency executives of the NDC, which does not promote development.
She noted that before the President nominates a person, due diligence had already been carried out to ascertain his or her competence levels.
Madam Frimpong made the remark during the first general meeting of the National Forum of National Democratic Congress Constituency Chairmen (NAFOCOC) in Accra.
The forum, which brought together constituency chairmen of the party across the country, with the exception of the Greater Accra Region, was on the theme: ‘Promoting the welfare and sustenance of political activists for accelerated peace and development’.
Absent from the function were the current functional national executive committee of the NDC, regional chairmen and Senior Ministers of State.
She assured the party Chairmen that government appointees were prepared to work with them, hence, they must give their maximum cooperation to the functional national executives and Ministers of state.
The Deputy Minister said NAFOCOC was not a pressure group within the party but rather a forum that sought to improve the welfare of constituency executives.
She stated that some reasonable support would be given to constituency executives as and when it is available, and admonished them to channel their grievances to the top hierarchy of the party for redress.
She urged them to bury their differences and stop the internal wrangling within the party for the greater good of the party.
‘Remember that you are the king makers of the party; you are the NDC heads in the various constituencies, do your best to pull the people together,’ she said.
