Division One side Mighty Jets write to Ghana FA over MTN FA Cup quarters berth

Ghanaian second-tier side Mighty Jets have officially notified the Ghana Football Association’s FA Cup wing to allow them face Asante Kotoko in the quarter-finals of the MTN FA Cup, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The Accra-based side are asking the Ghanaian football regulatory body to respect rule governing the FA Cup competition and replace them with AshGold who failed to show up in the supposed quarter-final game against Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The competition’s regulations stipulates that any club that fail to show up for game shall automatically to replaced by the club it eliminated in the preceding phase.

However, the MTN FA Cup Committee and the FA’s Disciplinary Committee have both been silent on the law since the Miners failed to show up on the April 13 date. Instead the Disciplinary Committee has charged the Obuasi-based club for misconduct while further action is been keenly watched.

“There is no two ways about this. The law states it clearly and rules and regulations of the competitions says we must replace AshGold. We have written to the GFA and published in the Daily Graphic but we are yet to here from them,” Mighty Jets insider Uncle Oyedeji told Accra-based Adom FM.

AshGold reached the quarter-final stage after eliminating the former Ghana Premier League side 4-2 on penalties after a scoreless draw at the Len Clay Stadium in March.

AshGold’s action stems a protest against the MTN FA Cup Committee’s decision to shift the tie to Accra after Kotoko – the home side suffered a home ban.
