Current challenges won’t force us to relent on our promise – Kwakye Ofosu

Government says it will not be forced to relent on the promise to deliver a better Ghana, despite the current challenges facing the nation.

According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Deputy Information and Media Relations Minister, the John Mahama administration remains committed to working hard to make life better for the Ghanaian, “away from the doom that some seek to force on this nation”.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu was addressing a news conference Tuesday, to react to the issues raised by the group #OccupyFlagStaffHouse, during a demonstration on July 1, 2014.

The group held a peaceful protest at the front gates of the Flagstaff House, the official residence and office of President John Dramani Mahama to ignite change in governmental policy-making by drawing wider attention to the worsening economic conditions in the country.

But Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated “we shall not relent” until the better Ghana promise is achieved.

He outlined efforts being made by the government to improve performance of various sectors of the economy.

In the area of health, the Deputy Minister noted: “Government is addressing the health care needs of our people in a comprehensive manner” through the provision of state-of-the-art facilities at various health centres to ensure quality health care.

He described the recent challenge in the supply of power as “unfortunate and regrettable” but gave the assurance that: “Government is committed to supplying reliable power to all Ghanaians.”

According to him, the current challenges could have been worse but for the interventions put in place by the government.

“Work has also begun on substation reliability projects…to enhance operational reliability, security and control,” he stated.

He said several road projects across the country are either completed or nearing completion, save for minor works to enhance movements of people as well as transportation of goods.
